U.S. Highway 70 Construction Update
Many of you use Highway 70 on a weekly, if not daily, basis. Highway 70 is one of the primary east-west corridors for eastern North Carolina. North Carolina’s major cities on Highway 70 include, Raleigh, Smithfield, Goldsboro, Kinston, Havelock and Morehead City. Many of you in your travels have seen construction taking place on the Highway 70 Goldsboro Bypass and have questions.
Our Raleigh law firm is very familiar with this bypass. We have been representing individual landowners and families whose land has been taken for the construction since 2006. The acquisition and construction took place in three different phases, with the third and last stage scheduled to be completed soon. This would allow the opening of a 20.6 mile road which will be a four-lane freeway. It will bypass Goldsboro starting near Highway 581 and connect back to Old Highway 70 near LaGrange.
The other two major by-passes that are scheduled are the Havelock bypass which is scheduled to begin in 2014 and the Kinston Bypass which is scheduled to begin in 2020. While these bypasses will make it much more convenient for traveling on Highway 70 from Raleigh to Morehead City, The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s acquiring of the property owner’s land can come at a cost to individuals if not properly represented. If you have any questions about these projects, please do not hesitate to give our North Carolina condemnation attorneys a call.
